Chelsea are poised to sign Manchester City youngster Isaac McGillvary, sources have told Football Insider.

The Manchester City youth star and England Under-14 international is regarded as one of the best young prospects to emerge from the Etihad in recent years.

The attacking midfielder is in talks with Chelsea and has been offered a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

He is the son of Jermaine McGillvary, formerly a winger for Rugby League’s Huddersfield Giants and ex-England international.

Enzo Maresca is set for a busy transfer window as Chelsea close in on Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, who scored 12 goals for the German giants last term.

The West Londoners have already landed a move for ex-Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who has notched a goal and an assist in four Club World Cup appearances, helping the Blues reach the quarter-finals.

Chelsea are performing well in the Club World Cup

Frank Lampard’s first tenure as Blues boss demonstrated the talent in their academy, as he guided the Stamford Bridge club to a fourth-place finish in the top flight in 2019/20, while heavily relying on homegrown stars amid a transfer embargo.

Meanwhile, homegrown ace Reece James continues to shine for Chelsea, having established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.

Barring fitness concerns, James appears set to represent England in next summer’s World Cup under the stewardship of ex-Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

Meanwhile, the fact that Chelsea are nearing a swoop for Man City’s McGillvary showcases that the West London outfit remain intent on developing young talent to shape a positive future in the Premier League.
