San Antonio Spurs fans who were excited to see number-two-overall pick Dylan Harper suit up for the Silver and Black will need to wait just a bit longer. Today, the Spurs announced that Harper and second-year player Riley Minix will miss the California Classic and the first three games of San Antonio’s summer schedule.
Both will travel with the team to California, but won’t play due to injury recovery. Harper is dealing with a nagging groin injury, and Minix is still recovering from the shoulder surgery that kept him out for the majority of last season. The Spurs are optimistic that both players will suit up for the NBA 2K26 Las Vegas Summer League later this month.
San Antonio’s second lottery pick, Carter Bryant, will suit up for the California Classic, where he’ll likely be the focal point for the summer Spurs in their first three games. Bryant is not known as an on-ball player, so giving him some early reps in the summer league could help him adjust to the NBA game and improve in that area.
The Spurs have been known to rest their rookies in the summer league over the last two years. Victor Wembanyama skipped the California Classic, and Stephon Castle was shut down early after dominating the summer league last year.
Harper could make his debut on July 10th against the Philadelphia 76ers at 9 pm CT. That game will be broadcast on ESPN. You can watch Bryant and the rest of the summer Spurs in their first game against the Miami Heat on July 5th at 3:30 pm CT on FanDuel Southwest.
