Steelers All-Pro edge rusher T.J. Watt could end up with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles if they offer the right package, according to a Pittsburgh sports insider.
Trade rumors have swirled around Watt after he skipped Pittsburgh’s minicamp last month. He’s upset with his contract situation entering the final year of his four-year, $112 million deal.
The Steelers have shown no interest in dealing Watt and want to sign him long-term. But if the sides can’t agree on money, moving Watt might become inevitable.
Speaking to 94WIP on Tuesday, 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi revealed what it would take for the Eagles to land the four-time first-team All-Pro.
“If the Eagles called up the Steelers and said, ‘We want T.J. Watt. We’ll trade you Nolan Smith and a late-round pick,’ I think they make that trade. I really do, if something like that were ever put on the table,” Fillipponi said. “I think they would get younger because they could also sell it as well we get a player like this, we’re not punting on the season with a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers.”

Fillipponi noted that Pittsburgh’s recent defensive moves might influence their thinking. The Steelers recently traded safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round selection.
“I would think, originally, a first-round pick and you go from there but maybe they would want a player based on how things went with the Dolphins trade,” Fillipponi said.
Watt is a Steelers legend. Over eight seasons in Pittsburgh, he’s recorded 108 sacks and 33 forced fumbles while capturing the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year award.
The Eagles selected Smith with the 30th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He made an impact on Philadelphia’s top-ranked defense in his second season, recording 6.5 sacks during the regular season and four more in the playoffs. The 24-year-old won’t reach free agency until after the 2027 season.
The Eagles are projected to have 13 draft picks in 2026.
