Chelsea are reportedly keen to sign a Man United star this summer, and are willing to spend at least £55m.
The likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony are all set to leave the club after they all had successful loan spells elsewhere. However, having all returned to Old Trafford, they will now need to find new destinations for a permanent transfer.
Furthermore, Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he plans on selling Alejandro Garnacho this summer. There has been reported interest in the 20-year-old from both Chelsea and Serie A champions Napoli.
Chelsea willing to pay £55m for Alejandro Garnacho
The Blues have had a busy transfer window so far, securing the signings of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens. However, it seems that the Blues aren’t done yet, as they also want to sign someone to replace the likely departing Christopher Nkunku.
According to a fresh report by The Athletic’s United expert Laurie Whitwell, Chelsea are in talks to sign Garnacho, and the winger would like to join Chelsea with a move to London enticing him.
Another report from TEAMtalk says that Chelsea are willing to pay at least £55m for Garnacho if they need to, as United have dropped their initial asking price of £70m for him, because they would like to ensure a quick sale. It also adds that Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca wants assurances that Garnacho’s personality will fit in with the Blues after attitude problems at Man United.
He has seen success at United, and has performed well for Amorim’s side at times. Former United midfielder Paul Scholes compared him to Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the season after an excellent performance in the Europa League. He said on TNT Sports: “He was exceptional… he was direct, he ran at defenders all the time… He was like a young Cristiano.”
Man United could offer Chelsea a swap deal
Nkunku is expected to leave Chelsea this summer and has been linked with a move to Man United, as the Red Devils have reportedly been interested in him since the January transfer window.
Last season, the Frenchman made 27 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He struggled to regularly get into Maresca’s starting XI, hence the desire to leave this summer.
If the two clubs could agree a swap deal, Nkunku would be joining a United team who have the need for two number 10s behind a lone striker. Cunha is expected to play in one of those roles, and so Nkunku could partner him up behind whoever the Red Devils agree to sign as a number nine.
