Viktor Gyokeres during the Portuguese Cup final match between SL Benfica and Sporting CP.
Viktor Gyokeres continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.
The summer transfer window is now properly gathering pace as clubs, including , look to add to their squad ahead of the new season.
United have brought in so far this summer. Youngster Diego Leon will is also due to arrive at this week after completing his move.
But that is not expected to be the last of the additions before the deadline. United continue to work on a deal for Brentford forward , with the club seeing two bids turned down by the Bees.
It’s not only arrivals that are being concentrated on. A few players are also expected to leave the club before the deadline with a lot being said over their futures.
So, here is a look at some of the latest stories from in and around United over the last 24 hours. We’ve also given our thoughts on the situation.
Marcus Rashford transfer lifeline
Manchester United forward has been offered a new potential escape route from the club with reports claiming that Bayern Munich are showing an interest.
The United academy graduate is expected to leave the club this summer with United looking for a fee of £40 million. Reports from German outlet claim Rashford has been added to a list of potential targets for Bayern, but is behind Bradley Barcola, Nico Williams, Rafael Leao and Luis Diaz.
adds that Rashford himself is keen to move overseas this summer, with a preference being for a move that will see him competing for titles.
MEN Sport says: Options seem to be running our for Rashford, especially if he wants to move to a top team competing for titles this season. Barcelona fits that bill, but it seems that they are prioritising a move for Nico Williams.
Bayern would therefore be a good option, but the fact that they have other priorities means that both United and Rashford may have to play a waiting game to see if they act on their interest.
Viktor Gyokeres blow
United have been handed a potential blow in their hopes of signing this summer, with Sporting CP reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace to sell defender Ousmane Diomande, per Portuguese outlet .
The sale of the centre-back will bring a reported £47.2 million to the club, meaning that there will now be less financial pressure on the Portuguese club to cash in on Gyokeres, they can therefore afford to demand a higher price.
MEN Sport says: It seems that United have a battle on their hands if they wish to sign Gyokeres this summer, with this just another obstacle in their way.
Sporting are determined to get the best possible price for the striker, and extra money arriving into the club should only make that resolve stronger. It feels like there may yet still be a few more twists and turns to the saga before the September 1 deadline.
