As part of the agreement, Robinson has signed a new three-year, $48 million contract with Detroit. He is expected to fill the void left by sharpshooter Malik Beasley, the Pistons' free-agent guard whose status for next season is uncertain amid recent gambling allegations.
Fontecchio arrives in Miami after spending a season and a half in Detroit, where he landed following a trade that sent him out of Utah.
The Italian wing, who turns 30 in December, began his NBA career with the Jazz during the 2022-23 season. Over a season and a half in Utah, he appeared in 102 games.
Last season, Fontecchio averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 40.2% from the field and 33.5% from three-point range across 75 games.
