Crystal Palace are interested in a deal to sign Liverpool youngster Ben Doak and are weighing up making a formal move as talk of a swap deal involving Marc Guehi accelerates.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Palace scouts were tracking the 19-year-old’s progress last season.

The winger impressed on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, while both Palace and Bournemouth failed with bids for his signature in January.

This comes amid reports that Liverpool could offer Doak to Palace in a player-plus-cash deal for Guehi, who is on top of the Reds’ list of targets.

Brown told Football Insider in April that Liverpool are prepared to accept offers for Doak as they do not believe he will become a regular player under Arne Slot.

The Eagles are not the only club interested in the Scotland international, though, as Brown told Football Insider that Everton want to sign Doak this summer.

Crystal Palace eye Ben Doak deal after Marc Guehi claim

Brown told Football Insider in April that Crystal Palace want to sign Doak but plan to negotiate over the price tag as Liverpool want £30million for the winger.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted the Eagles are interested in Doak regardless of talks about Guehi’s future.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Ben Doak lately,” he told Football Insider.

“I’m told Crystal Palace like him and they’ve had scouts keeping an eye on his performances.

“He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and did enough to attract suitors, he’s obviously got talent, and Palace have been assessing him.

“Regardless of what is happening with Marc Guehi, he’s a player they’ve been interested in.

“If they want to do a deal, they have to determine how much Liverpool want for him.

“They didn’t want to pay the full price in January, and I can’t imagine they’re going to have a sudden change of heart in that respect.

“So if his fee drops, they could be tempted to make a move.”

Eberechi Eze update emerges after Arsenal talks

It looks set to be a busy transfer window at Selhurst Park this summer, with a number of incoming and outgoing deals being discussed behind the scenes.

Football Insider revealed on 30 June that Arsenal are considering a move for Eze after meeting with his representatives to gauge the interest in a deal.

The England international and FA Cup winner has a £68million release clause in his current contract with the Eagles and is unlikely to leave for less than that.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal “would love” to sign Eze and were tracking his performances towards the end of the season.
