Damian Lillard feels "elated" after being waived by the Milwaukee Bucks, as it allows him to join a contending team of his choice without financial constraints.
While Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly unhappy with the Milwaukee Bucks' decision to waive Damian Lillard, the star guard himself feels quite differently.

According to Tobias Bass, Eric Nehm, John Hollinger, and Sam Amick of The Athletic, Lillard is "elated with this decision," as it gives him a rare opportunity to focus purely on basketball—something few All-Star players have experienced in NBA history.
Simply put, Lillard will be able to join a contending team of his choice, either soon or perhaps next summer, without the financial aspect weighing heavily on his decision.
Lillard is owed $54.1 million for the upcoming season and $58.4 million in the 2026-27 campaign. Any team acquiring him during this two-year span would benefit from a salary offset.
The reality is he could sign for a minimum-salary deal and still receive the full amount owed, according to The Athletic.

NBA insider Chris Haynes has mentioned that the Miami Heat and Lillard's former team, the Portland Trail Blazers, could be potential suitors.
As The Athletic reported earlier, Lillard and the Bucks were expected to discuss whether he wanted to stay in Milwaukee after last season.
Between struggles with on-court fit and time away from his children, it was no secret that Dame's future in Milwaukee was uncertain.
This waiver comes after a strong season for Lillard, who averaged 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists while shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.6% from three-point range.
