Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott.
To be clear, the likelihood of Isak leaving St James’ Park this summer is low. Newcastle don’t have to sell, they don’t want to sell and importantly, the player, who has three years left on his contract, hasn’t asked to leave either.
But the Reds don’t quite hold the same hard stance when it comes to midfielder Harvey Elliott, who is reportedly open to leaving after struggling to nail down a regular spot in Arne Slot’s starting XI.
The 22-year-old was last week crowned Player of the Tournament after he scored five goals in six matches to help England under-21s win the European Championship for a second consecutive time.
His performances are said to have caught the attention of several clubs. German side RB Leipzig are among those linked, as are Newcastle, albeit relatively loosely.
Harvey Elliott - a good signing for Newcastle United?
Speaking on Geordie Journos, NewcastleWorld writer Liam Kennedy believes there could be some merit in the Magpies making a move for Elliott. It comes after the midfielder linked up well with Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento during the under-21s Euros.
“The link-up he had with Harvey Elliott, you look at it and you’re like... he’s a good player,” Liam said.
“He’s possibly not Eddie Howe good. He’s not the up-and-down merchant or has rapid pace, but he’s a good technical footballer, lovely left foot, can beat a man. If money were unlimited, you’d really want somebody like that as part of your squad.
“He’s got a little bit of the unlocking doors factor as well but I quite like him.”
Liverpool set Harvey Elliott price tag
As per The Athletic, Liverpool have set an asking price of £40million with a buy-back clause, or £50m without.
Elliott boasts both Premier League and Champions League experience and is capable of playing either in midfield or the right-hand side of attack - two positions Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen in this summer’s transfer window.
Surrey-born Elliott has made almost 150 appearances for the Reds since joining as a teenager from Fulham in 2019, though only six of those were starts last season.

He is likely to have fallen further down the pecking order at Anfield following the £116m British record arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
When asked about his future last month, Elliott warned the Reds he can’t continue ‘wasting years’ of his career.
“It's just a situation that me and the team on my behalf have to have a conversation about, because I'm coming to an age now where I'm 22, I'm going to be 23 next season, and I don't really want to be wasting years of my career, because it's a short career,” Elliott said.
“I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself and the best player I can be. If that's to go somewhere else, then it's a decision I'm going to have to make and I just need to see what happens.”
