David Moyes is desperate to extend Jarrad Branthwaite’s stay at Everton.

The Scotsman relied heavily on Branthwaite’s contributions as part of an all-English defensive trio last season and sees the 22-year-old as critical to Everton’s future.

Branthwaite has been subject to interest from Chelsea, who are showing no signs of slowing down their spending spree under Todd Boehly.

However, The Friedkin Group are committed to supporting Moyes this summer. Therefore, they have turned their attention to resolving Branthwaite’s future as a priority.

Everton in advanced contract talks with Branthwaite

It has been widely reported that contract talks between Everton and Branthwaite are at an advanced stage, with the Toffees ready to offer the defender an improved salary.

The centre-back has two years left on his current deal and has performed at a level that belies his age, earning him an England cap last year.

Branthwaite’s Premier League record over the last two seasons

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes Everton will look to offer Branthwaite a three-year deal with favourable terms that incentivise the player to sign.

“That will be a three-year contract,” King said.

“I’d imagine that is what Everton are looking for, with another year as an option. He will be put on any good money; I’d think anywhere between £100,000-130,000-a-week. They will want to make him as comfortable as possible.

“If they’re talking about valuations of £70million-plus, he needs to be on wages to reflect that value. This is good news for Everton and the supporters. It’s also good news for Moyes, the players are showing faith in him, these are the players he wants, so Everton are going to make sure they keep them.”

Branthwaite extension will show a statement of intent

Everton have repeatedly had to sell their best players to stay afloat, including losing Amadou Onana, Richarlison and Anthony Gordon in the last three years.

This made convincing top players to join the Toffees challenging, as they visibly lacked any aspirations to achieve bigger things under Farhad Moshiri.

TFG are looking to pull off an ambitious move for Thierno Barry, but convincing Branthwaite to trust their project and stay at the club will be seen as an even bigger statement of intent.
