Leeds United transfer latest as Premier League newcomers hunt for Joe Rothwell replacement

The summer transfer window is starting to kick into gear, with Leeds United looking to get their business done early.

Manager Daniel Farke is preparing the club for life back in the Premier League after earning automatic promotion from the Championship last season. The aim will be to retain their Premier League status by the end of the campaign.

For that to happen, the squad will have to be strengthened. In the last two season, all three promoted clubs have suffered relegation in the first season and it’s a trend that Leeds will want to break.

There are, so far, three new faces in the door at Elland Road. Lukas Nmecha’s move on a free transfer from Wolfsburg is now officially complete following the expiry of his contract. He has been joined by centre-back Jaka Bijol. His £15m move from Udinese was confirmed last week.

And United further strengthened their centre-back options last night, capturing Wolfsburg defender Sebastiaan Bornauw for around £5m. The Belgium international has penned a four-year contract.

More additions are expected over the coming weeks before the deadline on September 1. United have identified Hoffenheim star Anton Stach as a prime candidate for the club’s midfield this summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 26-year-old, who stands at 6ft 4ins tall, has caught the eye with performances in the middle of the park in the Bundesliga in the season just gone. He is said to be on Leeds’ shortlist, but they are not the only club showing an interest.

It is added that it’s a deal that is expected to be done later in the summer should they pursue a move for him over the next few weeks, with the club facing fierce competition for the midfielder. He has two years remaining on his current contract with Hoffenheim.
