Ally McCoist predicts what Andy Robertson is going to do at Liverpool before the season starts

Andy Robertson’s Liverpool future has been a hot topic of conversation over the last few weeks, with an Anfield exit being rumoured.

Although the Scotsman was still Arne Slot’s first-choice full-back last season, this term, things are likely to be different.

Milos Kerkez has been brought in from Bournemouth, with the Hungary international likely to slot straight into the Reds’ first-team squad.

And, since neither Robertson nor Kostas Tsimikas have been sent packing yet, it means that there are currently three left-backs within Liverpool’s ranks.

There has been talk of both Tsimikas and the Scotsman looking for a way out, but at the moment, nothing has come to fruition.

Ally McCoist believes Andy Robertson will be having a chat with Arne Slot soon

Slot defied the odds throughout the 2024-25 campaign with the Dutchman bringing the Premier League title back to Anfield at the first time of asking.

This summer, the Reds’ transfer policy has also changed, with FSG loosening their purse strings and allowing the Dutchman to spend close to £200million already.

With this in mind, players will have to be sold soon for the Reds to recoup some of their money, and, since Robertson’s future has question marks hanging over it, Ally McCoist has given his verdict on what his fellow countryman is likely to do before the season kicks off.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

“Andy Robertson has been fantastic, what a career,” he said while live on talkSPORT.

“From starting off at Celtic as a kid… I don’t like using the word rejected, but [he] got let go, released, [and] went to Queen’s Park. Dundee United, Hull, Liverpool, it’s one of the great Scottish success stories.”

“80-odd caps, I’m not sure how many it is, goes to Liverpool, plays in a top, top team, wins leagues, cups, you name it. You could see it last season; he wasn’t starting every game.

“You could see there was maybe a train of thought that his time at Liverpool was perhaps coming to an end. Now, I don’t know. Andy Robertson could be the type of guy… He’ll have a chat with the head coach, of course he will.”

Milos Kerkez is exactly what Liverpool needed for the 2025-26 season

Robertson only has a year left on his current deal at Anfield.

The Scotsman is also 31 years old and doesn’t look likely to have his Liverpool tenure extended.

This is why Kerkez was the perfect addition for Slot’s men, as he’s only 21 years old and feels like an almost carbon copy of what Robertson was in his early days with the club.

He can get forward while also putting in a shift defensively, and he’s also lightning-quick, so he can always recover his position in case anything goes wrong.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether Liverpool will be the team to beat in the Premier League next season, but with the recent additions they’ve made, such as Florian Wirtz, it’s hard to see how they won’t be.
