Manchester United are targeting PSG’s Fabian Ruiz as a potential midfield reinforcement
Manchester United had a poor last season, capped off by the one-goal loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final– a result that might have turned their season around. With regrets unable to be removed, the Red Devils are moving ahead and thinking about their next campaign with redemption in mind. United will try to recover from last season with a significant summer rebuild. According to reports, United leads the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz.
Last summer, Manchester United invested over £40 million to bring Manuel Ugarte from PSG. However, the Uruguayan’s performances over the past year have split opinion among fans at Old Trafford.
While Ugarte has earned praise for his ball-winning abilities, he’s struggled with composure in possession. PSG boss Luis Enrique dropped him due to his limited technical quality, and Ruben Amorim also showed little faith in him, leaving him out of the starting XI for the Europa League final.
Back in Paris, Enrique has built what many consider one of the strongest midfields in Europe—where Fabian Ruiz has emerged as a key figure. His ability to link defence and attack through progressive ball-carrying and precise passing has made him one of Enrique’s most trusted players.
United to face major competition for the Spaniard
The veteran midfielder has made an impact throughout Europe, making an impression in Spain, Italy, and now France. With over 130 appearances and a most recent treble to add to his resume, Fabian Ruiz is arguably one of the best midfielders in world football at this time.
According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United are preparing to make an approach to try and take Ruiz from Paris Saint-Germain. Al-Nassr and a few other Premier League teams are reportedly interested in the 29-year-old. However, with Ruiz being such a big part of Luis Enrique’s system, it won’t be easy to take him away from the UEFA Champions League winners.

Fabian Ruiz also played a key role for Spain, first under Luis Enrique and then during La Roja’s triumphant Euro campaign with Luis de la Fuente.
Reports indicate that PSG are keen to keep their midfield trio of Ruiz, Joao Neves, and Vitinha intact heading into the 2025/26 season. With two years remaining on his contract at Parc des Princes, prising Ruiz away will be a difficult task.
Still, Ruiz appears to be a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s system. The Portuguese manager favours technically gifted ball-carriers, and Ruiz’s style would complement Bruno Fernandes brilliantly. If United manage to pull this off, they’d be adding a player tailor-made for their midfield rebuild.
