New potential suitor emerges for Damian Lillard

The Golden State Warriors have emerged as a team showing interest in unrestricted free agent Damian Lillard, who is originally from Oakland.

Unrestricted free agent guard Damian Lillard is expected to attract plenty of interest after the Milwaukee Bucks waived and stretched his contract. The Miami Heat currently appears to be the leading contender to sign him.

NBA insider Chris Haynes also noted that Lillard's former team, the Portland Trail Blazers, should be in the mix. Meanwhile, Marc Spears reported that the Golden State Warriors are the latest team to show interest, having reached out to Lillard.

"Of the many teams that reached out to Damian Lillard, the Warriors were one of those teams," Spears said.

"This is a guy that grew up going to games at Oracle Arena, sneaking into the media room, getting sodas. Grew up a Warriors fan. That's interesting."

Lillard, originally from Oakland, is expected to miss most of next season due to a torn left Achilles tendon. He was set to earn $113 million over the next two seasons, but the Bucks have stretched that amount over five years.

Last season, Lillard played 58 games for Milwaukee, averaging 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game.

The Warriors also face a key decision regarding Jonathan Kuminga. Spears mentioned, "I'm hearing the Warriors are still optimistic that they're gonna re-sign him, but if they re-sign him, maybe that's for a sign-and-trade."
