Wolves back in for 'aggressive' 18-cap international after rejected January bid - journalist

Wolves’ pre-season will begin soon, and fans are clamouring for new faces.

The club have signed just one new player so far this summer, with Fer Lopez arriving from Celta Vigo.

It has mainly been about players leaving up to now, with a handful departing Molineux to leave Vitor Pereira’s squad much weaker than it was.

Wolves still hope that Nelson Semedo will sign the four-year contract that is on the table.

But the club do feel the captain is likely to move on, which is a big blow.

Wolves are in the market to strengthen in multiple positions at the moment, and seemingly, there is a desire to bring in a new defender.

Pereira has spoken about landing a left-sided defender to challenge Toti Gomes – and there has now been a claim that Wolves are plotting a bid.

Pereira has five centre-back options at the moment.

But given that Wolves play with three at a time, there is scope for another option.

And according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Thomas Kristensen of Udinese could be someone Wolves move for.

He writes on X: “Wolves, Bournemouth, and Como are plotting moves for Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen in this summer’s transfer window.

“Wolves had a bid for the Denmark U21 international rejected in January.”

Wolves had targeted Kristensen at the end of the January transfer window, but went on to sign Nasser Djiga on deadline day.

It was then claimed Wolves fell around £1.2 million short of Kristensen’s valuation, and so a move did not materialise.

Como are becoming a more attractive proposition these days, and obviously they play in the league that Kristensen currently does.

But both Wolves and Bournemouth potentially have the advantage in this race. Because 18-cap Denmark international Kristensen – who describes himself as ‘aggressive’ – is on record as saying he wants to play in England.

He said in an interview with RG earlier this year: “Ever since I was a little kid, my dream has always been to play in England. Then, when I got a little older, my dream was to come to Italy to become a defender. If you want to improve as a defender, Italy is the best place to do it.

“They teach defending in the best way. Right now, I’m here in Udine, and I have a lot to improve on, and Udinese is a great place to improve as a player. There’s no rush, but I still have a dream of playing in England one day.”

Bournemouth just lost Dean Huijsen, so Wolves potentially have a fierce battle on their hands.

But perhaps Wolves will be determined not to miss out again, after falling short in January.
