Contact initiated to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder – One competitor out of game

On June 3rd, Globo Esporte reported John Textor is leading Lyon’s efforts to try and sign Nottingham Forest’s Danilo. They also stated the Premier League club have been offered a €25m fee.

Textor owns Botafogo and wanted to insert a clause that will allow the Brazilian club to take the midfielder in the future. Danillo wasn’t keen on such a condition and rejected the move.

Three days later, L’Equipe reported Textor could buy the Brazilian and Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner, for Lyon, for a combined €30m.

Since then, Textor has stepped down from his role at French club. UOL now report on Lyon when covering Real Betis’ interest in Danilo.

They state the French club opened negotiations with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side for the 24-year-old in recent weeks. They have ‘backed out of the talks’ and were forced to because of the financial constraints following the latest developments.

The La Liga club have identified the Nottingham Forest midfielder as a target to replace Johnny Cardoso, who is expected to join Atlético Madrid.

Real Betis made first contact to understand the terms and to find out if they can sign Danilo on loan. UOL insists they haven’t made an offer yet to the Premier League club.

Faced with the possibility of losing Danilo, the report adds Nottingham Forest have made contact for Juventus’ Douglas Luiz.
