Aston Villa and Newcastle United have been told that Spanish international Samu Aghehowa will cost any suitors as much as £85m if they're to part with him in this summer transfer window.
Aghehowa almost moved to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid - who maintain 50% of the transfer rights - last summer, but the £34m move fell through late in the day and instead the striker completed a move to Portuguese giants Porto, where he excelled this past campaign and scored 27 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.
The 21-year-old's exploits also earned him a call up to the Spain squad, and he made his international debut in November before being involved in their Nations League run-in this summer, although where he'll be playing his football next term remains a little uncertain.
Aghehowa's form has alerted clubs on the continent, and and Newcastle - both competing in Europe next year and respectively aiming to strengthen their squads in the transfer window - have been linked. Indeed Villa , considering Aghehowa to be a potential successor to the sold Jhon Duran.
Portuguese outlet that any club who wishes to sign Aghehowa will have to fork out far more than the money Chelsea were due to pay last summer, because of the player's achievements and performances in the 12 months since. Now, clubs will have to cough up as much as £85m - which Atleti would be entitled to half of.
