Juventus reach agreement for striker once linked to Manchester United

Manchester United’s summer has seen more questions than answers, with the club still grappling with FFP restrictions, transfer outgoings and a long list of names linked to Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim has been pressing for reinforcements up front, as he aims to reshape the squad in his first pre-season in charge.

INEOS, now fully installed in a decision-making capacity, are walking a tightrope between bolstering the squad and offloading high earners, while many of United’s rivals have wasted no time in strengthening.

Juventus, for instance, have already made significant moves in the market, despite not yet finalising exits for high-profile players like Dusan Vlahovic.

And now, one of United’s long-linked attacking targets is heading to Turin instead.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have reached a verbal agreement with Jonathan David, with the Canadian forward expected in Turin shortly to undergo medical tests.

Romano reported that a long term deal has been agreed with the 25-year-old.

The finalisation of the paperwork is pending, but the deal is described as “effectively complete.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport adds that Juventus’ desire to sign a new number nine was never contingent on the sale of Vlahovic, and the club remains intent on adding further firepower — including ongoing interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, another forward frequently linked with Manchester United.

Jonathan David’s arrival forms part of what is being described as a broader attacking overhaul, and Juventus’ swift action in landing the Lille striker now puts the ball firmly in United’s court.

Jonathan David, who recently featured in the Gold Cup with Canada, scoring and converting a penalty before his side were knocked out by Guatemala, is seen as a smart long-term signing by the Bianconeri.

United, by contrast, have yet to advance meaningfully for any secondary option to Rasmus Hojlund, despite considering names like Viktor Gyokeres and of recent, Ollie Watkins.

This latest development not only highlights Juventus’ ambition but further illustrates the frustration among United supporters as another promising name slips through the net.
