Mark Noble shows his class as Hammers get their man

Possibly the worst-kept secret of the transfer window was officially ended yesterday when Daniel Cummings was unveiled as a West Ham United player. The former Celtic youngster only made his senior debut for the Scottish side in January – in the Champions League against Aston Villa: so he is one of a select few of West Ham’s current crop with Champions League experience!

Explaining the motive behind his signing for West Ham, Cummings was quick to credit West Ham’s sporting director for sealing the deal, according to Celtic FC fan site eltsarehere.com.

Former West Ham captain and current sporting director Mark Noble played a key role in luring him to London, with Cummings clearly impressed by the structure and progression opportunities being offered.

As Cummings said: “Since day one, when Mark [Noble] was on the phone, he spoke so highly of everyone here and sold the Club to me.

“I did a lot of research about the Club and there’s a pathway to the first team, and that’s all you can ask for as a young player.”

Potter and Noble spoke often about the ‘pathway’ to first team football, and how it had been lacking under Julen Lopetegui. Fortunately the two have worked hard to create a huge change. The emergence of Ollie Scarles into the first team has not gone unnoticed as Cummings acknowledges the route open to him but certainly not a ‘given’ as some were suggesting.

He”ll train with the u21’s and look to impress, and will be the only u21 player with European Champions League experience. Hopefully not the last.
