£30M midfielder finally speaks out after Leeds United transfer saga

So far, Leeds United have had a decent success rate when it comes to their business this summer. The club have already welcomed three players to Elland Road.

Lukas Nmecha was the first to arrive, joining the club on a free transfer. He adds some quality and depth to the attack ahead of next season. Leeds also completed a deal for Udinese’s Jaka Bijol. The Slovenian has been one of the more underrated players in Serie A over the past few seasons.

The club bolstered the attack and midfield, two key areas on the pitch. Last season, Joel Piroe played almost every game, and now, he will have some competition. Bijol also arrives to bolster an already defensive united that was the second best defence in the Championship.

Leeds planned to sign a midfielder, making a bid for Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra. Talks were held between the clubs, but according to sources, the Whites were not willing to pay over their valuation to sign the midfielder. Sunderland swooped in to sign Diarra for a whopping £30million.

The Senegalese international has now spoken on his move to join the Black Cats:

“I’m happy and excited to become a Black Cat and I can’t wait to discover the Stadium of Light and its fans. Everyone saw last season’s success and I guarantee that I’ll give everything for this team and fight for these colours in the Premier League. I’m ready for this challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”

This was the right decision by the club

Leeds had their principle, and stuck to it. The club were not willing to pay more than they valued for Diarra. And that is very sensible, considering that they have signed two players from Serie A and the Bundesliga for just £20million. Smart business is the plan this summer, and Leeds are sticking to it.
