Report: Man City are now ready to sign 50-goal youngster after Liverpool make offer

Manchester City have been on a recruitment drive ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Pep Guardiola has seen Tijjani Reijnders added to his squad, which followed the additions of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli, with Man City’s summer business not expected to stop here.

There have also been major changes behind the scenes, with Pepijn Lijnders added to Guardiola’s coaching staff, while the Spaniard has also seen James French brought in as his new set-piece coach.

At youth level, Man City have already recruited several promising talents, and the latest will see the Manchester club try and hijack a 17-year-old star Liverpool have already made an offer for.

Man City are ready to rival Liverpool for Will Wright

Will Wright made his debut for Salford City against Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup in January, and only months later, the Premier League side are looking to bring the Englishman to the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Daily Mail, Man City are ready to hijack Liverpool’s move for the 17-year-old, with the Reds said to be very keen on the striker, having already made an offer for the youngster.

That has still to be accepted by Salford, with the report stating that City are poised to make a rival proposal for Wright, which is understood to be in excess of £100,000 plus add-ons.

Arsenal, Brentford, Leicester City and Burnley have also enquired about the 6ft 3in teenager, but it is believed that his preference is Liverpool at this moment in time.

Wright, who scored over 50 goals at all levels for the League Two club last season, is viewed as a top talent by the Premier League clubs, who are excited by the time it took for the youngster to progress through the ranks at Salford.

Several youth stars are close to joining Man City’s academy

The success of Man City’s academy is well-known in English football, and it seems that the Manchester club are keen to bring through another crop of top talent.

Should City win the race for Wright, this would see the striker join several other young stars who have decided to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

The Manchester club are close to signing Freddie Lawrie from Aston Villa, while Dexter Oliver is also close to joining from Tottenham.

Manchester City will also add 15-year-old Kaylum Moss to their youth set-up from Liverpool, with Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan the most high-profile youngster ready to move to Manchester ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
