Liverpool make offer for EFL starlet eyed by Manchester City, Leicester City

Leicester City have checked on Salford City teenager Will Wright but Liverpool have made an offer for his services, as per the Daily Mail.

Leicester City are a club in limbo with no manager at the helm and financial issues lurking. LCFC were relegated from the Premier League straight away and must now fight to get back there.

The Championship is an ever-strengthening league though, and the Foxes will be in for a tough campaign as PSR issues rumble on in the background and star men draw interest.

There will still be hope they can compete towards the top end of the division in the short-term, but interest in 17-year-old Salford City striker Will Wright indicates the club still have an eye on the long-term too.

The Daily Mail reports that Leicester City are among the clubs to have checked on the teenage striker, though they look to face an uphill battle for his signature.

Manchester City are ready to battle rivals Liverpool for a deal, but the Anfield outfit have made an offer for the Ammies prospect and he is keen on a move to Merseyside.

Man City are set to make an offer of £100,000 plus add-ons while Arsenal, Brentford and Burnley have eyed him alongside LCFC.

An early emergence

At only 17, rumoured Leicester City target Wright has already caught the eyes of some top clubs.

His stunning form at youth level for Salford City last season earned him four senior appearances. He played 67 minutes across two League Two outings, came off the bench in the EFL Trophy and even appeared against admirers Manchester City in the FA Cup earlier this year.

The minutes afforded to Wright is an indicator of the Ammies’ belief in his existing ability and potential, and it seems some of the country’s biggest clubs are all too aware of the prospect too.

Prospects can provide a brighter Leicester City future

It has been a tough few years for Leicester City since the highs of a Premier League title, FA Cup glory and challenging for European football.

Unfortunately, their financial situation means they are skirting a very fine line with punishments. As such, first-team signings will likely be limited.

LCFC need to reset and change their vision, and moving to sign and develop top prospects like Wright into big assets could be a smart way to do so. Signing players with high ceilings and resale value will protect them financially in the long-term, which may be viewed as more important than immediate on-pitch success to protect the future of a club steeped in English football history.
