‘Things could’ve been handled better’–Acceptance door left open for Arsenal to sign player

Cristhian Mosquera’s plan this year had been to extend his contract at Valencia, and then Arsenal stepped up their efforts to sign him in recent days.

The centre-back’s contract expires in 2026, and the La Liga side assured months ago that a renewal offer was on the way. He didn’t actually receive an offer until Monday, after Los Ches had rejected an Arsenal bid.

Two days ago, Superdeporte reported Arsenal are expected to make an improved bid for the 21-year-old.

Levante-EMV reports on Valencia’s attempts to tie him down to a new contract while Arsenal try to sign him.

The Spanish club have made a written renewal offer until 2028, with an improved salary, but it won’t make him one of the highest earners at Mestalla. That latter part contradicts claims on Tuesday.

Mosquera holds the upper hand when deciding his next step. According to Levante-EMV, he should respond to Valencia’s renewal offer soon.

If he were to reject it, the interested club need to meet Los Ches’ asking price. Arsenal, after seeing their €15m bid get rejected, are willing to offer €20-25m including bonuses.

Mosquera has always expressed his desire to continue at Valencia as long as their project is competitive, and the salary is in line with his performances. .

Levante EMV, a newspaper local to Valencia, state ‘things could have handled better’ by the club. Delaying the renewal offer has allowed Arsenal to move into the picture.
