Archie Gray responds to Junior Firpo Leeds United message after transfer decision confirmed

Leeds United stars past and present have given their response to Junior Firpo's confirmed exit from the club.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that the left-back has now departed. Leeds had held talks with the player about a proposed new deal - with his contract expiring this summer - but he has decided against extending his stay and is expected to re-join boyhood club Real Betis.

In an official statement, Leeds wrote: "Junior has played a huge part for the football club both on and off the pitch during his time at Leeds United. His infectious personality made him a popular figure at Thorp Arch, as well as with supporters when he represented the club during his many community appearances.

"He now moves on to a new challenge having played 119 times for Leeds and will always be remembered in history as part of a title-winning team.

"Thank you and good luck, champion. You will always be welcome back at Elland Road. He's magic don't you know, his name is Junior, Junior Firpo."

Firpo himself took to social media platform Instagram to respond to the update. "To my Leeds United family, today is one of those moments you know will come eventually but it doesn't make it any easier," he said in a video. "After four unforgettable years, it's time for me to say goodbye to a club, a city and a group of people that have come to mean so much to me and my family.

"When I first arrived in the summer of 2021, I was excited for the challenge ahead; a new league, a new country and a chance to grow. What I found here in Leeds went far beyond football. I found a house, I found teammates who became family, staff who treated me with respect and care every single day, and fans who live and breathe for this club like nowhere else in the world."

He went on: "And, to the fans, the true soul of Leeds United. Even during the tough times, you stood by us and I'll always be grateful for that. Leeds isn't just a football club or a city, it became my home. And even though my time here has come to an end, that connection will never be broken. Thank you for letting me be part of this incredible club's story. Marching On Together.”

In among the replies was ex-Leeds youngster Archie Gray. The teenager, who completed a move from Leeds to Tottenham Hotspur last summer, simply wrote: "Legend" while adding a heart emoji.

Joshua Guilavogui, who has also left the club at the end of his contract wrote: "You have made us champions of England." Manor Solomon, who spent the season on loan at Leeds, from Spurs, wrote: "All the best, mi hermano."
