Kepa Arrizabalaga has completed his transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal in a £5m permanent deal. The transfer brings an end to his six years at Stamford Bridge, in a shock move across London to a fellow capital rival.
Arsenal Secure Kepa Arrizabalaga as Experienced Goalkeeper
The 29-year-old Spanish international, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid but returned to Chelsea earlier in the summer. No longer a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, the Blues granted him his release on a reduced-price agreement, and Arsenal intervened to offer him a new abode.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined the Emirates as competition and cover for David Raya, who recently made a permanent transfer from Brentford. With Aaron Ramsdale expected to leave the club in search of regular game time, Arsenal acted fast to snap up an experienced and trustworthy backup.

The fee of £5 million is a significant reduction of the record £71.6 million Chelsea paid to buy Kepa from Athletic Club in 2018. He went on to make over 160 appearances for the Blues, but was never consistent and lost his place as first-choice keeper over time.
Chelsea Continue Summer Rebuild
Kepa’s exit is the latest step in Chelsea’s summer departure overs under Maresca, with the club keen to remould their squad and reduce the wage bill. The Blues have already sold a number of senior players and are due to confirm further departures in the coming days.
For Arsenal, the signing gives them depth in a key position as they look to mount for another title challenge under Mikel Arteta. Kepa Arrizabalaga is Premier League and Champions League experienced and and his presence adds quality and competition to the goalkeeping department.
The Kepa Arrizabalaga transfer wraps up one door and opens another across town in red and white, a bold move by both clubs.
