Lakers explore new trade options for center role

The Lakers are exploring trade talks for Phoenix's Nick Richards and New Orleans' rookie Yves Missi as part of their offseason search for a center upgrade.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been searching for a center upgrade throughout the offseason. While they're reportedly considering veteran free agents like Deandre Ayton and Al Horford, other options have also come into play.

New names have emerged in the LA Lakers' pursuit of frontcourt depth, specifically Phoenix Suns big man Nick Richards and New Orleans Pelicans rookie Yves Missi, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

The Lakers have held trade talks with both Phoenix and New Orleans, exploring potential deals for these players, per the same report.

Richards, who was acquired by the Suns before the 2025 trade deadline in exchange for three second-round picks and Josh Okogie, has made an impact. In 36 games with Phoenix after being traded from Charlotte, the 27-year-old center averaged 9.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, Missi was the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 21-year-old earned a spot on the 2024-25 All-Rookie Second Team, averaging 9.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in his rookie season with the Pelicans.
