'Done deal': Leeds player set to sign four-year contract at Ilia Gruev's old club for a bargain fee - journalist

Leeds United appear to have intensified their transfer activity this week, and reports are now emerging regarding a potential move away from Elland Road for one player.

Already this week, Leeds have confirmed the exits of Manor Solomon, Joe Rothwell, and Junior Firpo. The latter, Firpo, is expected to sign for Real Betis in the coming days, while Rothwell is set to join Rangers.

Then, Leeds confirmed their third summer signing. Belgium international Sebastiaan Bornauw joined the club on a four-year deal on Tuesday evening, with Leeds said to be paying Wolfsburg a fee of about £5m.

Reports emerged on Wednesday morning that Leeds had agreed a new long-term deal to keep winger Dan James at Elland Road. His contract ends in 2026 and Everton were said to be sniffing around James.

Now, more news coming out of Leeds and it involves a player that has already been told he can leave Leeds this summer. Max Wober recently admitted that Leeds had told him he would not be kept on.

Florian Plettenberg says Max Wober’s exit is now a ‘done deal’

One of eight players to turn their back on Leeds and use Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause, Wober returned last summer after a season at Gladbach but only managed nine appearances for Daniel Farke.

Indeed, Wober was forced to undergo two knee operations but has retained his Austria place. This week, LeedsUnited.News was told that Wober was set to leave the club and return to Germany’s top division.

Then, it was made obvious that it would be Werder Bremen who would sign Wober. Now, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reports that Wober’s move to Werder is a ‘done deal’, a four-year contract.

Max Wober’s Leeds United spell in numbers, not value for money

When Leeds signed Wober, there was real hype. A big, powerful, left-footed centre-back who Jesse Marsch knew well, able to play centre-back, left-back and even in midfield. His debut was impressive.

An FA Cup clash against Cardiff in which Sonny Perkins scored his only Leeds goal, a late equaliser to draw 2-2. Wober came on as a sub in holding midfield and completely changed the game for Leeds.

But it hasn’t worked. In two and a half years at Leeds, Wober has managed 28 appearances. The Austrian has cost Leeds £357,000 a game and that is simply not good enough. It is a move that all needed to do.

Wober now returns to the Bundesliga for a second spell after a loan at Gladbach, joining Ilia Gruev’s old side Werder Bremen. Last season, Werder finished in a very impressive eighth and will look to follow that.
