Before the summer transfer window, it was obvious that Leeds United needed a revamp. Heading into the Premier League, the squad needed some serious quality and depth.
And so far, the recruitment team have delivered. Lukas Nmecha and Jaka Bijol were the first two signings of the summer, and Sebastiaan Bornauw has been the latest to join them. Leeds have addressed two major areas of the team. The club now have competition as Nmecha will challenge Joel Piroe for a spot in the attack.

Leeds’ approach to signing new players involved Daniel Farke reaching out to players to sell the project in order to convince them over a move. And so far, it seems to be working fine.
Graeme Bailey revealed that Red Bull have been influential so far as Leeds have signed two players from the Bundesliga. But the club’s approach is more than that. Sebastiaan Bornauw has also revealed that he had been contacted over a possible move to West Yorkshire since January:
“I saw a lot of games because the interest was quite early. So, from the end of January, I tried to see every game. I’ve followed the second half of the season, I know Leeds are a big, traditional, historic club.” he said speaking to LUTV.
Leeds have been smart with recruitment
The club is doing everything right with regards to recruitment. The aim is to sign quality players who actually want to play for the team. Leeds have also done this at incredibly low transfer fees, showing how the Red Bull network has been influential.
The summer of 2023 saw loads of signings under Jesse Marsch. These players were expected to change the club. But as soon as Leeds were relegated, there was an exodus of players. With this approach, the club is signing players who will stick with the club in these situations – a good sign for the future.
