Cowboys Trading Luke Schoonmaker Ideas Has Fans Buzzing On Two Issues

Is it the silly season, or is it simply that time of year when we have to fill time with rumors and theories because the Dallas Cowboys moving on from Luke Schoonmaker is now news.

First, it was the Cowboys who should call the Pittsburgh Steelers and trade Schoonmaker in exchange for Darnell Washington. Now, we have Dallas trading Schoonmaker to the Miami Dolphins for a late-round pick.

Let's be clear, as fans buzz about the ideas ...

One, unless the guy is a bad apple, the Cowboys aren't in the business of letting a player, on a cheap rookie deal, leave, even if it is for a late draft pick.

And two, why would either the Steelers or the Dolphins want a tight end who hasn't shown anything substantial in two years, and give away draft capital in the process?

A to Z Sports is the latest to bring up Schoon as a trade candidate.

"Schoonmaker—former second-round draft pick for the Cowboys—could be someone that intrigues the Dolphins based on upside alone," A to Z Sports writes. "Adding even a late-rounder for Schoonmaker could be seen as a win for Dallas' front office."

The publication says "upside," but Schoonmaker has shown glimpses, but that's it in two seasons. Is 306 yards and three touchdowns from 36 receptions enough of a sample size of upside?

Is it worth trading for?

Yes, Schoonmaker has fallen down the depth chart behind Jake Ferguson and Brevyn Spann-Ford, and we aren't sure if there is a way back for the former second-round pick, but who knows? Maybe he shines in Oxnard.

But for all these Schoonmaker trade ideas, in truth, they are just that, an idea, and one that doesn't make much sense. ... due to two issues.
