Liverpool are set to press on with their plans to sign Marc Guehi after selling Jarell Quansah. The Reds have identified the Crystal Palace star as another addition this summer.
It was revealed last week that Liverpool chiefs were closing in on a deal for the England defender, who was set to become the club’s latest big-money addition. But there were just a couple of issues holding up a deal.
First, Liverpool needed to generate some funds having spent well over £150m already in the summer transfer market on Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. And they also needed to make space for another centre-back, with Guehi making his decision on his next club based on the amount of game time he would receive.
And Liverpool chiefs have managed that in one fell swoop with academy graduate Quansah completing a switch to German side Bayer Leverkusen. The defender has penned a five-year contract with the Bundesliga outfit after completing a £35m switch.
Speaking after leaving Anfield, Quansah said: "From the moment I walked through the doors of the Academy at 5 years old, I dreamed of one day wearing the Liverpool shirt at Anfield. 17 years later, I can now say I have lived that dream.
"To my teammates, thank you for welcoming me, pushing me, and believing in me. I’ve learned so much from sharing the pitch and dressing room with such amazing people and will never forget the incredible memories we’ve had.
"To the staff, the coaches, and everyone behind the scenes, your belief and dedication have always been a constant source of motivation. You have helped me grow not only as a footballer, but as a person as well.
"And to the fans, your support has always been unmatched. Whether at Anfield or away from home, hearing you sing never failed to inspire me. I will carry that with me wherever I go.

"Liverpool will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just a club — it’s a family! This is goodbye for now, but I’ll always be watching — once a Red, always a Red."
Quansah’s exit now means that Liverpool need a replacement for him, that man having been earmarked as Guehi. And the Reds could even need another centre-back before long, with Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain given he has just a year left on his contract.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will remain focused on their potential outgoings. Both Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott have recently been linked with moves away, while Atletico Madrid hold an interest in Andrew Robertson.
