Official: Jarell Quansah Completes Bayer Leverkusen Transfer

Jarell Quansah is officially a Bayer Leverkusen player today, the 22-year-old [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/)\-born centre half completing his £35M move to the German side in search of a path to regular minutes for a top club while Bayer seek a replacement for the departed Jonathan Tah.

The deal has been widely reported to include a buyback clause that becomes live after Quansah has played at least two seasons in Germany, meaning the Reds could if they so choose bring the club trained talent back to England in 2027 for around £51.5M (€60M).

“From the moment I walked through the doors of the Academy at five years old, I dreamed of wearing the Liverpool shirt at Anfield,” Quansah said following his departure. “I can now say I have lived that dream. Thank you for welcoming me, pushing me, and believing in me.

“To the fans, your support has always been unmatched. I will carry that with me wherever I go. Liverpool will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just a club—it’s a family! This is goodbye for now, but I’ll always be watching—once a Red, always a Red.”

Quansah broke through in 2023-24, Jürgen Klopp’s final season in charge at the club, and appeared set to become a Liverpool mainstay in defence. The arrival of Arne Slot, though, saw him struggle to fully earn the trust of the new manager and sparked transfer talk.

That season under Klopp as well as being leader and anchor of an England U21 side that just beat Germany in the Euros speak to his talent—and while it seems far less certain today his future is at Liverpool, that buyback clause at least means the door isn’t closed entirely.

“Signing one of the most promising defenders in English football is an important step for our squad,” Bayer’s sporting director Simon Rolfes noted. “Jarell recently lifted the U21 European Championship and stood out as one of the most exciting centre-backs.

“His strengths speak for themselves: pace, agility, strong tackling, and the ability to play football on a high technical level. Despite his age, he has already competed for minutes in a backline filled with world-class players in the Premier League and [Champions League](https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league).

“With Jarell, our Bayer defence gains dynamics, speed, and a lot of potential for the future. He fits exactly into our philosophy and has the mindset and character to grow into a key player. I’m looking forward to seeing your development in black and red!”
