Celtic to welcome Manchester United legends to Parkhead as details of charity match announced

Celtic will be welcoming Manchester United legends to Parkhead this September as they host their next charity match.

Celtic FC Foundation has announced their next Legends Charity Match, supported by Dafabet, which will take place on Saturday, September 6, with a 2pm kick-off.

The two sides met at Old Trafford last September, as an entertaining encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Hoops eventually coming out on top following a penalty shoot-out.

This rematch will see the return of a host of Celtic greats to Parkhead, including two exciting new additions to the legends squad – Joe Hart and Tom Rogic.

Former England goalkeeper, Joe Hart, left Celtic last summer following three seasons with the club. Tom Rogic ended a trophy-laden nine-year spell at the Hoops, by leaving for West Bromwich Albion at the end of season 2021/22.

Fans are delighted that both will now be back in action at Celtic Park for the first time since their departures.

Joe Hart said: “I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Celtic Park for the Legends match in September. It was such an honour to finish my career with the Club and, although it’s only been just over a year since I left Glasgow, I really can’t wait to come back and play in front of the fans again.

“It’ll be brilliant to see some familiar faces and it promises to be a great occasion. I was always so impressed by the work of the Foundation during my time at Celtic and it’s going to be fantastic to play a part in hopefully raising plenty of money through this match.”

Tom Rogic said: “It’s really exciting to be coming back for the Legends match against Manchester United. My time with Celtic was such a huge part of my career and there were so many amazing memories, so to come back and pull on the Hoops again will be a very special moment.

“There was always such a big focus from the Club on helping others and the work that the Foundation do is phenomenal, so it’s a privilege to be involved and I’m sure the supporters will come out in their numbers as they always do.”

Celtic FC Foundation confirmed that all funds raised through the match will focus on feeding people in need of their support, through their Paradise Pit Stop project.

Through the project, the charity provides a free warm meal and a selection of hot and soft drinks four days a week, in a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals and families.

Paradise Pit Stop serves as a safe, inclusive environment where people from some of Glasgow’s most vulnerable communities can access a hot meal, feel valued and gain access to essential support services.

The charity's aim is to provide relief from food poverty and tackle the increasing issue of loneliness and isolation in our communities.

Tickets for the Legends Charity Match will be priced at £18 for adults and £9 for concessions and will be exclusively available to season ticket holders in the first instance, from 10am on Thursday, July 3, with all remaining tickets then being placed on general sale from 10am on Monday, July 7.

A range of Matchday Hospitality packages will also be available to purchase, starting at £42 per person.

Further information is soon to follow. You can keep up-to-date at the charity's website here.
