Sheffield Wednesday have announced former Liverpool defender Harry Evers is among the youngsters to have signed professional deals with the club.
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t had an awful lot to smile about over recent months. SWFC are a club in crisis, hoping a takeover can drag them out of the mire.
There is set to be an exodus of first-team players after another month of delayed wages and numerous footballing staff members have seen their deals expire. All the while, manager Danny Rohl moves closer and closer to a widely expected exit.

It leaves the Owls in a dire position heading into the 2025/26 campaign, but there has now been some movement on the academy front.
As announced by the club’s official website, Sheffield Wednesday have recruited 18-year-old defender Harry Evers after his departure from Premier League winners Liverpool.
Evers, who mainly plays as a left-back, has signed a professional contract with SWFC. He arrives alongside Cole McGhee and Denny Oliver, who sign from Preston North End and Lincoln City respectively.
Also penning professional deals with the Owls are graduating scholars Ernie Weaver, Logan Stretch and Joe Emery, who have impressed over the past two years to earn their first contracts.
Called upon earlier than expected?
Prospects such as Evers may have initially arrived at Sheffield Wednesday with the expectation that they would start out with the academy side and push for a senior breakthrough in the years to come.

However, FIFA regulations rule that players can hand in a 15-day notice and rip up their contracts if payments have been missed twice, and this is now the case at SWFC. As such, a significant exodus is expected over the next two weeks.

This combined with a registration embargo could bring Wednesday’s academy graduates to the fore, potentially offering new arrivals like Evers an unexpected route to the senior team.
What next at Sheffield Wednesday?
In all honesty, there’s no telling just what lays ahead of Sheffield Wednesday.

One thing for certain is that they need a takeover. Dejphon Chansiri has been offered takeover deals and continued to reject them, but with the club’s value dwindling and crisis deepening day on day, he simply must sell up as soon as possible.
Whether that lays in the immediate future though, it remains to be seen. Exhausted and concerned fans will not be holding their breath, but SWFC desperately need a route out of this crisis.
