Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are closing in on the signature of Viktor Gyokeres; the Gunners have agreed on personal terms with the Swedish striker.
Arsenal have been on the lookout for a new striker for some time, and according to Sacha Tavolieri, the Gunners are closing in on the signature of Viktor Gyokeres. They have already agreed on personal terms with the player and are in advanced talks with Sporting CP.
Gyokeres has taken his game to the next level since joining the Portuguese giants in the summer of 2023 from Coventry City. He had an exceptional debut campaign and has backed it up with another sensational season last time out.
In his 102 appearances for Sporting, the 27-year-old Swedish international scored 97 goals and even bagged 28 goals. While his contract at the Portuguese club runs until 2028, he is all set to part ways with them this summer.
Gyokeres has a massive €100 million release clause, but he should be available for a much lower fee, even though Sporting CP’s president has denied the presence of a gentleman’s agreement to let him leave on the cheap.
While multiple top clubs have been linked with him over the last 12 months, Arsenal seem to have taken total control of the race. The Gunners are looking for a new number nine as Mikel Arteta isn’t pleased with the output of his current forwards.
Arsenal could soon complete Gyokeres’ signing
Gyokeres has an exceptional track record, and they feel he could help them take the next step and win major titles. While Benjamin Sesko was also on their wishlist, the Gunners are moving away from the Slovenian international.
They are totally focused on securing the services of Gyokeres and already have an agreement in place with him. Both parties have agreed on a five-year deal. While they now have the green light from the player, the Gunners still need to strike a deal with Sporting CP.
The North London club are in advanced talks with the Portuguese outfit as they look to finalise the deal. There is a feeling within their camp that they are within touching distance of getting it done.
