Former Bristol Rovers coach Dave Horseman is set to take on a new job at one of the biggest football clubs in the world following his Gas exit, Bristol Live understands.

As first reported by Football Insider, Horseman is set to join Manchester United as assistant manager of the Red Devils' Under-21s after leaving Rovers at the end of last season.

The Bristolian spent just one campaign in BS7, working under both Matt Taylor and Inigo Calderon while also taking interim charge when Taylor took a leave of absence to deal with a family emergency as well as after he was sacked last December.

Horseman's departure was confirmed by Rovers in early May following the announcement of Darrell Clarke coming in as Calderon's replacement in the dugout. The Pirates have since brought in Jon Stead and Rhys Carr as assistant head coaches.

Prior to his season with the Gas, the 41-year-old had experienced his first stint as a senior manager at Forest Green Rovers before doing some work with the FA.

Before Forest Green, Horseman had spent four years at Southampton, mainly as the head coach of the Saints' B Team, but he also had a brief spell as a first-team coach under Ruben Selles.

His longest spell at a club though was Bristol City, spending over 10 years combined with the Robins in various academy management and coaching roles either side of just shy of three years at Watford as lead professional development phase coach for the Hornets' under-23s.
