Manchester United are closing in on the appointment of David Horseman as Under-21 assistant manager.

Travis Binnion is Under-21 boss and his former assistant David Hughes left the club at the end of last season to become Newport County's manager, meaning a vacancy opened up.

Sources have confirmed Horseman is expected to succeed Hughes in that U21 assistant role.

Horseman worked as a first-team coach at Bristol Rovers throughout 2024/25, but the club were relegated to League Two and his departure was confirmed at the beginning of May.

Before working at Bristol Rovers, Horseman spent just over five months as the first-team manager of Forest Green.

Horseman won just four matches and he left Forest Green five points from safety when he left by mutual consent in December 2023.

Horseman worked at Southampton between 2019 and 2023, which meant he crossed paths with Jason Wilcox at St. Mary's Stadium. Wilcox was recently promoted to director of football at United after a spell as technical director.

It's understood that Wilcox is overseeing significant changes in the academy.
