Leeds United man closes in on Elland Road departure as £3.4m transfer timeline emerges

Max Wober is closing in on a permanent move to Werder Bremen. German news outlet DeichStube reports that the Leeds United have reached an agreement with the Bundesliga outfit over Wober.

It has been suggested the Whites could receive £3.4m for the centre-back. Wober's medical with Bremen is imminent, according to DeichStube, and he will reportedly sign a four-year contract. There is a strong possibility the deal could be confirmed later this week.

It is no big shock United are looking to cash in on Wober. The Austrian international has found it difficult to produce his best football since moving to West Yorkshire in a €12m from Red Bull Salzburg . He departed United in the summer of 2023 following the club's relegation to the Championship after Borussia Monchengladbach activated his loan release clause.

Wober returned to Elland Road last summer and was reintegrated back into the first team fold by Daniel Farke. Injuries hampered Wober, though, last term. He made just two Championship starts as the Whites won the title. The consistent form of Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu at the heart of United's rearguard also limited Wober's game time.

United have been active on the transfer front, bringing in two new centre-backs in Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw. It is hoped their strength and physicality will benefit the Whites in the long run.

"I'm quite an aggressive defender, I would say," Bornauw told the club's website. "I'm strong. I like duels and I think that's pretty English. I think as a centre-back, I'm dangerous in front of the goal, I like set pieces, offensive set pieces. So that's what I think my game is, I would say.

"I'm really pleased to be here, it's an amazing club. The Premier League was always my dream, and then to play for such a big club in England and in Europe, it's a dream come true.

"I think the Premier League for me is the biggest league in the world. Obviously, Germany is a really strong league too, but I think as a football player, we aim for the highest and I think the Premier League is the highest for me."
