Arsenal catch stray bullet as Alexander Isak told where Newcastle United future lies

Newcastle United are adamant that Alexander Isak is going nowhere this summer.

Jermaine Jenas believes joining Arsenal from Newcastle United would be a sideways move for Alexander Isak.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta wants a striker to complete his Premier League jigsaw. The Gunners have finished second for three consecutive seasons but were forced to use former Toon midfielder Mikel Merino as a makeshift No.9 last year.

Isak was linked with Arsenal in recent windows but their interest has cooled given the astronomical price tag. Newcastle have made it crystal clear they do not wish to sell the Swede and are in a strong negotiating position.

Alexander Isak going nowhere

Three years remaining on Isak’s current deal has made an exit unlikely but reports still link Liverpool with his signature. NewcastleWorld have consistently reported that the 25-year-old is set to stay at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph reported in December that £150million would be needed to even begin a conversation regarding Isak. This came before the striker fired Newcastle to Carabao Cup glory and Champions League qualification.

Jermaine Jenas on Alexander Isak

Former Toon midfielder Jenas has dismissed Arsenal as a possible destination. In comments that will wind up Gunners fans, the 42-year-old cited the lack of difference between both teams while suggesting only Real Madrid, Barcelona or Liverpool could strike a deal.

"No I'm not actually (worried about Isak leaving),” Jenas told talkSPORT. “I do honestly believe that for Newcastle's best players to leave, they've literally got to be stuck in a corner, Newcastle, as a football club. There must be no way out from a Financial Fair Play position.

"It's not because they can't give Alexander Isak the wages he wants and it's not because he's not playing in the biggest competitions and so on and so forth. (Manchester) City's not an option for starts.

“Arsenal and Liverpool are an option but I don't see Arsenal as a massive jump forward, personally. As a football club, yes, it’s (Arsenal) a bigger football club than Newcastle but. in terms of the teams that they’ve both got currently, I think that for him to leave Newcastle, this phone call needs to come in from Real Madrid, Barcelona or maybe Liverpool."
