Liverpool have acted quickly to reinforce their squad from a position of strength this summer transfer window and now the club will be looking to recoup some of their spending by moving on the players that won't have a part to play in Arne Slot's second season - but supporters in The ECHO comments section say the jury's still out on whether Harvey Elliott should be included in that group being lined up for a sale.

Harvey Elliott is, undoubtedly, in the shop window after huge performances for the Young Lions at the Under-21s Euros this summer, notably scoring twice to set them through to the final, and then opening the proceedings in a 3-2 defeat of a talented Germany squad. One club said to be interested in a deal for the Player of the Tournament this summer is Brighton, who have a good track record of developing young players into stars.

The versatile Elliott has found opportunities lacking across recent times at Liverpool, clocking up just 360 minutes spread out over 18 appearances in the Premier League as Slot's side charged to the title. That's a significant drop in playing time compared to the previous two seasons, and with the players ahead of him - such as newcomer Florian Wirtz - it will be even harder to make his case for starts.

Some reckon that Liverpool should convince him to stay, even if it is as 'super-sub' or in a supporting role. Reader Corona says: "We've had to put up with having much lesser players in our squad than Harvey Elliott. The lad brings energy to the team along with 100 per cent commitment, he's always looking to go forward. It would be a massive shame if he is allowed to leave."

Doctorchillgood writes: "Really hope Harvey Elliott stays. The lad's got bite, energy and some proper graft. A bit of bad luck with injuries and now he just needs more minutes and a bit of confidence behind him. You don't find that mix of proper attitude, commitment, and quality every day - especially in somebody still developing. In some three years, he'll be worth far more than whatever's on the table now.

"If he has to go - which I wouldn't back- it should be a loan at most, or a sale with a buy-back. Letting him go for good would be daft."

Darwinism says: "Elliot just did what Florian Wirtz did in 2021. It's easy to dismiss it as Under-21, but this is the next generation. In 2032, these lads will be 28-year-olds and potentially big stars.

"We need to keep him. If he wasn't already ours and you heard we were getting him, you'd be excited."

Other say it's time to let him fly the nest. Silversong writes: "You can see what a run of games does for a player like Harvey - timing, rhythm, confidence all through the roof... alas he won't get sniff with [Mohamed] Salah around, even if he drops off after AFCON like usual he will still start every game. Then you have [Jeremie] Frimpong or Wirtz who can play that position as well...

"Move on Harvey lad - preferably abroad so we don't have to watch you doing damage against us! Great young talent - just wrong time, right place."

DaretoDream writes: "I'd say he's shone at U21 level, but he's yet to show that form on a regular basis at the top level. Whether it's a positional thing, a slight lack of pace or physicality I don't know. I for one would keep him as the potential is there to be seen. If he's sold, please insert a buy-back clause!"

Have your say! Is it fair to try to convince Elliott to stay as "super-sub" or a squad player? Or should Liverpool sell him - and how? Comment below, and join in on the conversation.
