Quansah drops major hint of Liverpool return after completing Bayer Leverkusen move

Jarell Quansah said, “This is goodbye for now” in his Instagram post after completing a move to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old defender joined the German side for an initial fee of £30m from the Merseyside club. Liverpool have also included a buy-back clause worth €60m, which will be active from 2027, as per various sources.

The defender has been part of Liverpool since 2008, when he was just five years old. He made 58 appearances for the senior team after making his debut in 2023.

Liverpool are now trying to fill the gap, as they are reportedly targeting a centre-back of a similar age. Reports suggest that Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is the favourite to replace him at Anfield.

As Quansah moves to Bayer Leverkusen for now, he shared a message on Instagram that may have hinted at a possible return to Anfield in the future.

What Quansah said on Instagram

The defender shared: “From the moment I walked through the doors of the Academy at 5 years old, I dreamed of one day wearing the Liverpool shirt at Anfield. 17 years later, I can now say I have lived that dream.

To my teammates, thank you for welcoming me, pushing me, and believing in me. I’ve learned so much from sharing the pitch and dressing room with such amazing people and will never forget the incredible memories we’ve had.

To the staff, the coaches, and everyone behind the scenes, your belief and dedication have always been a constant source of motivation. You have helped me grow not only as a footballer, but as a person as well.

And to the fans, your support has always been unmatched. Whether at Anfield or away from home, hearing you sing never failed to inspire me. I will carry that with me wherever I go.”

He ended the post by adding: “Liverpool will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s not just a club – it’s a family! This is goodbye for now, but I’ll always be watching – once a Red, always a Red.”

As Liverpool have the option to bring him back in 2027 for a fee of €60m plus add-ons, Quansah looks like he might also want to wear the Red jersey again in the future.
