CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs’ offseason maneuvering continued Wednesday morning, bringing back one of their own.
Cleveland re-signed young forward Luke Travers to a two-way contract.
Originally selected No. 56 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Cavaliers, the 6-foot-7 Travers left native Australia and signed his first two-way deal ahead of the 2024-25 season. Travers, 23, only appeared in 12 games for the Cavs, playing most of his rookie season with the G League affiliate Charge.
In 16 G League games, including 15 starts, Travers averaged 15.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks. He recorded four triple-doubles, including a 25-point, 18-rebound, 10-assist performance against the Raptors 905 on February 13, 2025.
Before coming to the NBA, Travers spent five seasons in the NBL (Australian Basketball League) with Melbourne United and the Perth Wildcats. In his final NBL season, Travers averaged 12.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
By rule, players under NBA two-way contracts may be active for up to 50 games with their NBA team. The rest of the time must be spent in the G League.
Prior to free agency beginning, the Cavs tendered Travers a two-way qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent. He accepted the offer, remaining with the Cavaliers, where he will continue to be part of the organization’s player development program.
Travers, who will not play at Las Vegas Summer League, joins fellow forward Nae’Qwan Tomlin as the team’s two-way players. The Cavs have one open two-way spot after choosing not to tender a qualifying offer to 2023 second-round pick Emoni Bates.
