Paul Finebaum isn’t scared to make waves as the Mouth of the South. That includes when it comes to his many bold predictions, and he dropped one on Tuesday that stirred the pot a bit.

During an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Finebaum described rising Texas starter Arch Manning as the best college QB since Florida legend Tim Tebow. In case anyone has forgotten, all Tebow accomplished was being a part of 2 national titles for the Gators, winning the 2007 Heisman Trophy, and posting a pair of other top-5 finishes for the Heisman.

On Wednesday, Finebaum visited ESPN’s “First Take” to address his claim, but he did not back down. To his point, he described a “problem” many make when it comes to debating these points is mixing college performances and NFL careers.

“That’s a mistake a lot of people make in the peanut gallery, including the panel you have laid out there. They get hung up on the pros and mix it with college,” Finebaum described. “Tim Tebow was a bust in the NFL, I think we can all agree with that.”

Finebaum briefly paused as the co-hosts started to question the point, and the SEC Network host even got in a shot at former ESPN personality Skip Bayless. However, it’s clear Tebow’s NFL career was far less prominent than what he compiled in Gainesville.

“The point is Tebow was such a great college player, and I think Arch is made of the same material, and I think that’s why he will be all that,” said Finebaum in clarifying his initial prediction. “Now, of course, he hasn’t done that yet, and did I say what I did yesterday? Of course I did, and I meant it, in the total context of (Arch’s) career.”

That doesn’t necessarily change the bold nature of Finebaum’s claim, but it at least provides some clarity for the remark.
