Liverpool have not been afraid to splash the cash so far this transfer window as they look to defend their Premier League crown. The Reds have so far confirmed four new arrivals.

The £116 million signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen has been joined by Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman. But it seems that the Reds aren’t done there.

Arne Slot's side continue to be linked with a blockbuster transfer for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. The Sweden international has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since moving from Spain in 2022.

Last season saw him score 23 goals in 34 Premier League appearances, while providing a further six assists. It’s because of those numbers that Newcastle are said to be demanding a fee of at least £150 million if they are to sell this summer.

Here is a look at the latest news and reports over a potential move to Anfield for Isak.

Two transfer meetings

Liverpool have reportedly had chances to sign Isak on two separate occasions in the past, according to reports in his native Sweden. Fotbollskanalen has claimed that the Reds first had the chance to sign the striker when he was on the books of first club AIK

Liverpool are said to have discussed the forward, but a move never materialised after the meeting.

The Reds then had the second chance to sign the player when he was at Real Sociedad. However, the club instead opted to sign Darwin Nunez, giving Newcastle the chance to complete the transfer.

Transfer boost

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their hopes of signing Isak this summer with the player reportedly wanting to leave Newcastle. Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that the striker has now told Newcastle of his wishes to leave.

It is claimed that Isak would like to look at his options after having a ‘promise’ from both Newcastle and Eddie Howe that they would allow him to do so. However, the Magpies are determined to keep hold of the player as they prepare for life back in the Champions League.

Isak sent message

Former Newcastle man Jermain Jenas hasgiven his thoughts on the situation, speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "No I'm not actually (worried about Isak leaving). I do honestly believe that for Newcastle's best players to leave, they've literally got to be stuck in a corner, Newcastle, as a football club. There must be no way out from a Financial Fair Play position.

"It's not because they can't give Alexander Isak the wages he wants and it's not because he's not playing in the biggest competitions and so and and so forth.

"[Manchester] City's not an option for starters. Arsenal and Liverpool are an option, but I don't see Arsenal as a massive jump forward, personally.

"For him to leave Newcastle, if I was Alexander Isak, this phone call needs to come in from Real Madrid, or it needs to come in from Barcelona or maybe Liverpool."
