The Milwaukee Bucks made a lot of franchise-altering moves over the past few days.
Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn’t left, despite rumors circulating for several weeks, but another superstar is on the way out.
Damian Lillard was recently released after the team signed Myles Turner, a move that divided the fan base.
Some were happy with the outcome, while others wished they could have retained Lillard to help moving forward.
Initial reports indicated that Lillard was blindsided and frustrated by the release, but it seems he may be fine with the development.
Sam Amick of The Athletic recently wrote that league sources say Lillard is “elated” with the decision, noting that it might be the best move for him and his family.
“From the frustrations that came with the on-court fit to Lillard struggling at times while away from his children, it was no secret that Lillard wasn’t long for Milwaukee. Now, he leaves with a level of freedom not often seen in pro sports,” Amick wrote, via NBACentral.

Lillard’s new destination is to be determined, but there are already reports that the Golden State Warriors are interested.
However, he tore his Achilles during the 2025 NBA Playoffs and could miss all of this upcoming season. Also, he’ll turn 35 years old this month, so he doesn’t have that much time left in the league.
With that in mind, Lillard’s new team likely will be a title contender as he attempts to end his career on a positive note.
Meanwhile, the Bucks lost a premier shooter and ball-handler, and Turner doesn’t help with those deficiencies.
The Bucks will be a threat in the paint and on defense, but it remains to be seen if they can overcome Lillard’s absence in the locker room and on the court.
