It would “pain him” but incredible talent leaving Liverpool is the “ best thing for him”

**Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott was the best player at the U21 European Championship this summer but needs to leave Anfield to continue being a star player.**

One of the main things that will convict Elliott of his need to leave the club this summer is the desire to enjoy the way he played and starred in England’s success at the U21 Euros.

He will be enjoying his holiday now but the idea of returning to Liverpool to potentially only play several hundred minutes of football for the Reds this season will likely be too frustrating to accept.

Last season, the former Fulham star played just 822 minutes for Arne Slot’s side and with the £116m arrival of Florian Wirtz, his game time could be reduced even more dramatically.

I personally believe Slot will come to regret selling Elliott and it’s why I have been writing about [the need for Liverpool to include a buyback clause](https://live4liverpool.com/liverpool-shouldnt-be-selling-harvey-elliott-but-if-they-do-fsg-must-do-this/) when they do sell him.

Elliott would be worth over £100m if he played more over the last few years

While I don’t necessarily agree with this, Darren Bent said live on talkSPORT that with more consistent playing time in recent seasons, Harvey Elliott would be one of the most valuable playmakers in the world.

A fan called into the controversial radio station and argued that if Elliott had been playing as regularly as Wirtz in the last few years, he be worth a similar amount…

“_There’s an argument for that because I think technically, Harvey Elliott is a very good player,”_ Bent replied.

_“As you said, unfortunately for himself, he just hasn’t been able to nail down a permanent spot in that Liverpool team._

_“As much as it would probably pain him to leave a side like Liverpool, I think the best thing for him would be to go elsewhere, preferably abroad and playing week in and week out_.”

I love Elliott and think Liverpool have failed him since Jurgen Klopp left the club but Elliott isn’t nearly as mobile as Wirtz is and that has hindered him big time.

Off the ball, Elliott can often be a passenger and at the elite end of the game, that’s not ideal.
