Wayne Rooney's preferred Man Utd target is ready for Premier League transfer, Ruben Amorim could take him to next level …

Wayne Rooney admitted that he wanted a Manchester United target to arrive at Old Trafford and Ruben Amorim has received a major boost around the talented player.

Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford during the 2024-25 Premier League season and the former Sporting CP head coach oversaw a difficult period for the club.

Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October and the former Red Devils and Ajax boss’ exit paved the way for Amorim to succeed him last November.

However, Amorim was unable to turn around United’s dwindling form under Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils suffered their worst finish in the Premier League era.

United ended the 2024-25 campaign in 15th place and the Red Devils failed to secure European football for the 2025-26 Premier League season at Old Trafford.

Amorim almost salvaged part of the Red Devils’ season by reaching the 2025 Europa League final in May, only for Tottenham to beat United 1-0 in the tie in Bilbao.

Wayne Rooney wanted Victor Osimhen and the Napoli striker could move to Man Utd to play under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

Manchester United have been linked with Victor Osimhen and the 26-year-old Nigerian striker is tipped to leave Serie A side Napoli this summer.

Victor Osimhen was loaned out to Galatasaray for the 2024-25 campaign and he has now returned to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium after his spell ended.

The Napoli striker’s contract with Galatasaray expired on 30th June and the Super Lig champions are interested in making a move for Osimhen this summer.

Osimhen has received interest from Saudi Arabia and the former Galatasaray player is also expected to turn down a move back to Turkey amid United’s interest.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nigeria international wants to move to the Premier League and United maintain a ‘burning magnetism’ around them as a club.

Ruben Amorim requires a regular goalscorer in his ranks at Old Trafford after the struggling form of United strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund last season.

The 40-year-old United manager is laying out a long-term project at the Premier League club and Osimhen has the right profile fit for the type of striker that he needs.

What did Wayne Rooney say about Man Utd-linked Victor Osimhen amid the Napoli striker’s desire to play in the Premier League?

Victor Osimhen is out of contract with Napoli next summer and the reigning Serie A champions are keen to cash in on the player ahead of him becoming a free agent.

The Nigeria and Napoli striker has a £64m release clause in his current contract and has continued to attract interest from the Saudi Pro League and clubs in Europe.

Wayne Rooney liked Osimhen for United and the Red Devils legend named the former Galatasaray attacker as one of three signings he would make this summer.

“My three signings: I’d probably sign David de Gea back, I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he could still do a very good job,” he told Amazon Prime Video Sport in May.

“Second one I’d probably sign [Victor] Osimhen as a No 9. I think he’s a really good striker and possibly available.

“And the third one, it would be difficult but I’d probably try and sign [Marc] Guehi from Crystal Palace as a centre-back. I think he’d have a real good impact on the club.”

Osimhen ended the 2024-25 campaign with an impressive record at Galatasaray, with the Napoli striker netting 37 times in 41 matches across all competitions.
