After months and months of talks, it was thought Arsenal was clear-cut in its striker choice, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko the No. 1 target for the Gunners.
But as the transfer window has gone along, several things have happened with Sesko that has caused the Gunners to potentially re-think their choice.
First there was the reported [demand for a release clause](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6459308/2025/07/01/transfers-man-utd-arsenal-liverpool/?source=emp_shared_article) to be added, and then there were Sesko's high salary demands, both of which the Gunners reportedly didn't like.
Of course, under Andre Berta, the Gunners have been negotiating with more than one player, and Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres has been the other name on Mikel Arteta's wish list.
It was thought that Sesko was the clear favourite to move to north London but over the past week or so, things might have been shifting toward another direction, and it now appears that this is exactly what has happened.
### Arsenal's striker search sees new No. 1 target
We thought it was only a matter of time before the Gunners and Sesko agreed to terms and he was welcomed to north London as the new No. 9.
But not so fast.
[The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/35653602/arsenal-transfer-update-gyokeres-sesko/) is reporting that the Gunners have now fully turned their attention to Gyokeres and are "close" to completing the deal, with talks advanced.
That is quite the development.
The Sun also reports that the Gunners are feeling they are "touching the final line" when it comes to Viktor, and that if talks continue to move in that direction, it will likely mean the Sesko thought would end.
After months and months of talks, it appears that Sesko might have cost himself a transfer to Arsenal, with his release clause and salary demands possibly the reasons why the Gunners have shifted their attention to Gyokeres.
Granted, all of this could change with rumours and reports flying around everywhere right now at this stage of the transfer window.
But it appears that the Gunners, after having Sesko at the top of their striker list, he's now been replaced by Gyokeres.
