L’Equipe: Roma, Fenerbahçe and Brighton to Battle for Evann Guessand

Despite seldom featuring a top-dollar striker, Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta sides were consistently among Serie A's most potent clubs. Over the past three seasons, Gasperini's attack ranked among the top three in Italy, while their 78 strikes last season trailed league-leading [Inter Milan](https://www.serpentsofmadonnina.com) by one measly goal. Gasperini's ability to make exquisite meals out of average ingredients is precisely why Roma was adamant about acquiring the 67-year-old tactician.

In an ironic twist, Gasperini now has a top-dollar striker in Artem Dovbyk, who transferred to the Italian capital for €38 million last summer. While Dovbyk's 17 goals in all competitions were a solid tally, they did little to ease dissatisfaction among the Roma fans. And although [transfer rumors](http://www.sbnation.com/transfer-rumors) aren't necessarily a sign of the club's actual needs, it seems likely that Roma will add another forward this summer.

While he's not exactly a household name yet, Nice forward Evann Guessand suddenly finds himself in the middle of a bidding war between Roma, Brighton, and Fenerbahce, who are, of course, led by former Giallorossi manager José Mourinho. According to _L’Equipe_, Guessand, 23, is caught in a tug of war among those European rivals after scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in roughly 2,500 league minutes last season.

L’Equipe suggests that Mourinho's side is prepping a €25 million bid for the Ivorian international, so if Roma wants a bite at the apple, they'll need to dig deep into their pockets to beat Mourinho to the punch.
