Man Utd-linked star’s bargain release clause has become active for limited time, he’s built for Ruben Amorim’s system

Manchester United have the opportunity to now trigger the release clause of one player who is custom-built for the playing style of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim rolled out his tactical system from the moment that he became the sixth permanent Manchester United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The 40-year-old United head coach shifted the Red Devils to a three-man backline and dropped the wingers for two No 10s and the use of wing-backs instead.

United have mainly used a 3-4-2-1 formation under Amorim and the Portuguese coach saw mixed results with his tactical system during the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils struggled to adapt in the Premier League and United’s form continued to dwindle, with Amorim’s men ultimately finishing in 15th place.

However, Amorim’s side did find better success in the 2024-25 Europa League campaign and the Red Devils reached the final before United lost to Tottenham.

Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries has a release clause and Man Utd and Ruben Amorim should consider their options

Ruben Amorim is in the process of overhauling his Manchester United first-team squad ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season at Old Trafford.

The United manager inherited the majority of his squad from Erik ten Hag and Amorim is in desperate need of bringing in players built for his system.

Denzel Dumfries has been linked with United in the past and the 29-year-old Dutchman could leave Inter Milan this summer if his release clause is met.

The Netherlands international has been at the San Siro since 2021 after the Serie A side signed him from PSV Eindhoven for an initial transfer fee of €12.5m.

Denzel Dumfries, who can play as a right-back or as a right wing-back, has played in 179 matches for Inter Milan and netted 22 times and picked up 26 assists.

The Inter full-back is under contract until 2028, but La Gazzetta dello Sport now reports that Dumfries has a €30m release clause that has become active.

Will Man Utd trigger Denzel Dumfries’ release clause at Inter Milan and bring him to Old Trafford for Ruben Amorim?

Denzel Dumfries’ release clause became active from 1st July and is only available for a limited time, with the cut-off date believed to be mid-July (around 15th July).

It is believed that United have not had much interest in the Netherlands full-back this summer and Inter have not received a formal approach at the time of writing.

Dumfries has been a steady presence with the Italian side since his arrival at the San Siro and his ability as a wing-back could make him perfect for Amorim’s system.

But United have already added Patrick Dorgu to the first-team squad back in January and Amorim has stuck with Diogo Dalot as his right-sided option for the flank.

The Red Devils are also limited with their funds and the Premier League club’s priority is targeting a striker and a midfielder before the window closes.
