Knicks Expected to Hire Mike Brown

The New York Knicks are expected to hire Mike Brown as their next head coach, according to multiple reports. The Athletic’s James Edwards III reported the news first (subscription required).

The Knicks have offered Brown the job, and the two sides are anticipated to sign a contract soon, Edwards III reported.

Brown will look to take over a franchise in the Knicks that has made it clear that a championship is the expectation, providing pressure for a head coach who has experience in those situations, having coached both [LeBron] James and Bryant.

Brown, 55, has posted a career head coaching regular season record of 454-304. He accumulated that total while working the sidelines for three different NBA franchises: the Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Most recently, Brown was fired by the Kings after 31 games this past season. Before his early exit, he had led the franchise to back-to-back 45-plus-win seasons.

The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau in June only days after the team was eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals. It marked the franchise’s deepest postseason run in 25 years and followed a 51-31 regular season.
